During the last decade Geophysical Prospecting has been strengthening its position as a geophysical journal that publishes the best in primary research on the science of geophysics as it applies to exploration, evaluation, and extraction of earth resources. Tijmen Jan Moser, editor in chief, Geophysical Prospecting, explains how the journal is now building on these efforts by adding new kinds of articles that can be submitted.
Apart from the regular full papers, the editorial board of Geophysical Prospecting is now accepting and invites Research Notes, Letters to the Editor and Review Papers as possible submissions. We believe that this is a great opportunity for authors to efficiently publish ongoing research, for the journal to enliven the scientific debate, and ultimately for the reader to be more informed on recent developments. In addition, we have streamlined the Guidelines for Authors in order to facilitate the paper submission and to shorten the editorial process (see www.eage.org → Publications → Journals → Geophysical Prospecting → Guidance for Authors).
A Research Note is a short paper of 4–6 pages dealing with a single topic or presenting a single result, possibly related to ongoing work. It should be written according to the guidelines for a full paper, although the abstract is optional. A Research Note should be well written, precise, and informative: it is more than a conference abstract. Depending on its conciseness, the turnaround time may be significantly shorter than for a full paper.
Comments related to a publication in Geophysical Prospecting can be submitted as a Letter to the Editor. The Letter to the Editor should only cover one or two pages. The comments may be critical of published articles but the criticism should be fair, to the point, and appropriately worded. Accepted letters will be passed on to the authors of the article mentioned who will be given the option to respond.Research Notes and Letters to the Editor should be submitted via the EAGE’s ScholarOne Manuscripts website for Geophysical Prospecting at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/gp.
Geophysical Prospecting also warmly invites experienced geoscientists to submit a Review Paper on a subject in their area of expertise. Review Papers may cover the technical development in an area of choice over the last few years or decades and give an up-to-date overview of the state of the technology and an outlook for future developments. New developments may be included but this is not mandatory. Scientists interested in submitting a Review Paper are invited to contact the Geophysical Prospecting Editorial Office - Wendel van der Sluis (ws@eage.org) with their idea and topic. After acceptance of the topic of the Review Paper by the editorial board, the author(s) will be invited to submit a full Review Paper. |
